Gujarat's District Lists
There are 33 districts in the Indian state of Gujarat. Kutch is the largest and Dang is the smallest district. Ahmedabad district has the highest population and the lowest population in Dang district. Surat district of the state has the highest population density, whereas Kachchh district has the lowest population density.
There are 249 Talukas in Gujarat.

Gujarat History

1960

On 1st May 1960, Gujarat State was established from 17 districts of Bombay state.
These districts were: Ahmedabad, Amreli, Banaskantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Dang, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Kheda, Kutch, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Rajkot, Sabarkantha, Surat, Surendranagar, and Vadodara.

1964

In 1964 Gandhinagar district was formed from parts of Ahmedabad and Mehsana.

1966

Valsad district was surrendered in Surat in 1966.

1997

On October 2, 1997 five new districts were formed:
    Anand was released from Kheda.
    Dahod was released from Panchmahal.
    Narmada formed from Bharuch and Vadodara regions.
    Navsari was released from Valsad.
    Porbandar was separated from Junagadh.

2000

In 2000 Patan district was formed from the regions of Banaskantha and Mehsana.
2007

On 2 October 2007, the district of Tapi was released from Surat district, which became the 26th district of the state.

2013

On August 15, 2013, seven new districts were formed

 Aravalli was released from Sabarkantha.
 Botad formed from the regions of Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar districts.
 Chhota Udepur was released from Vadodara district.
 Devbhoomi Dwarka was released from Jamnagar.
Mahasagar formed from Kheda and Panchmahal.
 Morbi formed from Rajkot, Surendranagar and Jamnagar districts.
 Gir Somnath was formed from Junagadh.
 23 new talukas were formed on 9th September 2013.

 Garudeshwar Taluka was formed on October 28, 2013.
